Seminar, Shopping For TreasuresTaught by the long-time Antique Show manager, John Wanat, attendees were taught tips and pointers for shopping and seeking out antique treasures. Whether a veteran or novice collector, attendees learned of all the tools needed, proven shopping strategies and proper & effective negation techniques as well as exposure to identifying key historic changes in history. In addition current antique collecting and decorating trends were discussed.
1805-2023: Our Shaker LegacyWe celebrated the 218th year anniversary of the Shakers arrival in Warren County with an evening lecture and book signing, in the Robert and Virginia Jones Shaker Gallery, with shaker experts and authors, Christian Goodwillie (author of Richard McNemar: Frontier Heretic and Shaker Apostle) and Carol Medlicott co-author (with Goodwillie) of This Chosen Pleasant Hill: Shakers of the Kentucky Bluegrass).
Frontier TalesZachariah Johnson (portrayed by WCHS historian John Zimkus) told a series of stories of what life was like, in Warren County, over 200 years ago! Amazing stories about the wild wilderness, the men and woman that came here, and the dangers they faced everyday. Meant for children ages 6-12. Historic Dinner RafflesOur Historic Dinner Raffles were extremely popular! Participants could win a themed evening in either Glendower Historic Mansion, 1795 Beedle Log Cabin or the Victorian Gallery of Harmon Museum. Evenings included a three course dinner for four (themed, of course; a $400+ value), entertainment and interactions with historic characters! Period Costume WeekendGuests donned their best historic garb to travel through time as they toured the rooms of the stately Glendower Mansion. Decorated to reflect the different eras it served as a home to some of Lebanon's most notable figures (1845 – 1944), join the docents in 1840s - 1940s attire and got their photo taken in one of the decade themed rooms! Let's Go Fossil Hunting!Warren County Historical Society's very own Archeological & Fossil Expert, Douglas Baird took kid's and adults on an adventure of dirt & discovery! Baird led teams (two children's groups and two adult groups) for two hour excursions to dig for, and learn about, the many local fossils around Warren County!

The Westerner Novel TeaThe Westerner... a Postcard to the Girl He Left Behind is the newest novel by Carol Tonnesen, author of the Postcard Mysteries (available in our gift shop). Guest joined us for iced tea/lemonade and tea sandwiches as Carol spoke about her newest novel before leading a tour of Glendower, giving the history of the property as well as how it ties to the events of her book. All guests received a signed copy of the book.
Native American "All Nations Drum" CircleGuests joined us at Glendower Mansion as we welcomed the All Nations Drum Group. This inter-tribal group offered a blend of dance, drums, story-telling and other culturally significant practices, from several tribal nations, into a performance that was as educational as it was entertaining. This event expanded and became the Frontier Fair.
Living w/ History: Bus TourGuests went mobile as they joined Harmon Museum Curator and Associate Professor of Fine Arts, Dr. Michael Coyan, for an architectural survey of the area. This 90 minute bus tour looked at 19th and early 20th century designed building in Lebanon, Harveysburg, Waynesville, Springboro and Turtlecreek Township. Art Class: Bob Ross PaintingBob Ross certified painter and instructor, Nick Reynolds, gave two classes in the style of Bob Ross himself. Attendees were given the supplies and instruction to make their very own "happy trees". Art Class: Ambigrams with Beth GullyAuthor / Illustrator, Beth Gully, taught a class on how to create ambigrams at Harmon Museum. An ambigram is a word, art form or other symbolic representation whose elements retain meaning when viewed or interpreted from a different direction, perspective, or orientation. In Beth's case, when you flip one of her drawings upside down, you see a whole new image that was hidden there all along! Craft Class: Holiday Centerpiece WorkshopGuests set the mood for their Holiday gathering with a handcrafted floral centerpiece they made themselves with a little help from Donna and the team at Aretz Florists.
All materials (including fresh flowers and candles) were included in the ticket price. Arts Alive GalaAttendees came to celebrate the arts with a night of dinner and art when the Warren County History Center opened its doors for Art Alive! A cocktail hour led to a catered, locally sourced, dinner by The Garden Gourmet. The night was rounded out with painting lessons, gallery tours, an art showing, live auction, raffles, games (and more)! Grand Opening of Harmon Museum's New EntranceIn February of 2019, we finally held a ribbon cutting for and Grand Opening for Harmon Museum and its new handicapped accessible entrance. It only took a year and a half. Harmon Museum (formally the Warren County History Center) was opened with a band and free food for all! |
